It has always been Saint Hilary’s goal to be a full-engagement community – as we recognize that the time, energy, creativity and talents of our families bring vitality to our school.

Given the important role of family involvement, we strive to always improve the parent volunteer program through better communication of needs/opportunities within the school community and better record keeping of family contributions.

To best match talents to school needs and ensure families are aware of opportunities available, a Family Volunteer Plan will be emailed at the start of the school year. Also, as before, room parent communication and the school newsletter will deliver timely updates of specific needs that arise throughout the year.

The following three changes/clarifications are being made to help improve volunteer hour recordkeeping:

On-site Hour Log

A “Service Hour Record” binder will be placed at the front desk and will include a log sheet for every family. This will replace the blue-envelope recording method and will hopefully make it easier to keep volunteer hours up-to-date.

Segmentation of Classroom vs. School Community Activities

A new log sheet has been developed that will allow Parent Guild and the school administration to better analyze our volunteer program contributions.

The left column will be for classroom support activities (e.g. Superbooks, Library, Field Trips, etc.)

The right column will be for school community activities (e.g. Auction/other fundraising events, Blessing of the Pets/other school and church community events, CYO)

Clarification of the 20+/40+ Policy

While the 40 hour commitment (20 hours for single parent families) remains the same, families are encouraged to continue to log all time volunteered (including hours over and above the 20/40 requirement) for more accurate analysis of total hours contributed at the end of each school year.

If you have any questions or suggestions about the program, feel free to contact Leslie Kennedy.
