Practice Schedule
:
Wednesdays
3:15 - 4:30
Fridays
3:15 - 4:30
Our runners get to take a variety of routes,
including up to the Hippie Tree, as it is
known, the trails and hills behind St. Hilary,
as well as to Blackies Pasture and
Belvedere Park. The average run can be
from 1.5 to 3 miles, depending on skill level.
In addition to the runs (or during the runs)
the runners engage in games and drills to
improve speed and endurance. We also
focus on running technique, proper hydration
and race strategy.
For kids with a conflict on one of the training
days due to another sport: Your runner is
still welcome to join the team and just train
with us on the day he or she is free.
Rain Policy
:
On training days, if it is raining in Tiburon at
noon, practice is presumed canceled and an
email will be sent confirming. For meet days,
whether it is canceled is determined by the
race host and will be communicated as soon
as possible.
We start our runs from the grassy area
next to the gymnasium at Saint Hilary
School.
There are three or four meets
a season. The meets are hosted
by different schools each year on
different dates, including a Marin
County Championship hosted by
Marin County for 6th-8th graders.
The meet dates are during the
week and are determined during
a coaches meeting in mid-
September. The schedule will be
disseminated as soon as we
receive it. Parents must drive
their kids to the meets (or make
car pool arrangements).
3rd-5th runners race against
their age group and there are
separate girls and boys races.
The 6th-8th graders also race
against their age group and
there are separate girls and
boys races.
If you are a 6th-8th grader, you
must compete in two meets if
you want to run in the Marin
County Championship. This rule
was strictly enforced last year
to prevent kids from not training
or participating on teams and
then simply racing (and winning)
the Championship on behalf of
the school.
Race distances for all grades
are 1.00 to
1.25 miles.
Information
:
This fun sports is open to all 3rd to 8th Grade Students from any local school.
