School Uniform Regulations 2016- 2017

  1. Boys’ and Girls’ pants must touch the top of the shoe in front and back and may not have worn or tattered hems
  2. Caps/Hats may be worn on the playground but not in the classroom or the gym.
  3. Jackets/vests may be worn in cold weather OVER the sweatshirt, but not in its place
  4. Oversized or baggy shorts or pants are not allowed.
  5. Sweatshirts, coats and lunches must be clearly marked with the full name and grade of the student.
  6. For all special religious celebrations such as Mass or prayer services, Full Dress Uniform is required; girls must wear jumpers or skirts; boys must wear long pants. Both wear sweatshirts or sweaters.
  7. No neck scarves or head scarves are to be worn as part of the uniform.

Non-Uniform Dress

On Special Occasions, Free Dress days will be allowed. Dress code regulations will be announced by the school for a special event. Often this will be a “spirit day” that the Student Council is sponsoring. Boys and girls can wear clean, presentable pants, jeans or t-shirts. No underwear may be visible. T-shirts must have sleeves and be of an appropriate size to the student. Shorts may be worn provided they are the length of walking shorts. Shoes must be appropriate for outdoor play.

Non-uniform dress is regarded as a privilege and therefore, students are expected to dress appropriately. Styles that are extreme, sloppy, or in poor taste are not allowed. The decision of the Principal as to what is acceptable for any student is final. Those students in violation will be asked to call home for acceptable dress or will be sent home.

Personal Grooming

Students are expected to be neat and clean. Hair must be neat and a natural color (not dyed, rinsed, highlighted, bleached, or streaked). Boys’ hair must be above the shirt collar in the back and no longer than the middle of the ear and forehead. No student may wear make-up to school. Only clear nail polish is permitted.

  • Jewelry guidelines: Girls may wear post earrings (one in each ear lobe only); dangling earrings are not permitted. Necklaces must be religious in nature. One watch may be worn. The only approved bracelets are the authentic “cause” bracelets, such as Live Strong, etc. No more than three “cause” bracelets may be worn. Ankle jewelry is not acceptable.

UNIFORM/PERSONAL GROOMING VIOLATIONS MAY RESULT IN A DETENTION.
DETENTION MAY RESULT IN REMOVAL FROM THE HONOR ROLL.

Purchasing the 2015-2016 School Uniform Program

For school year 2015-2016, Saint Hilary families will be able to purchase school uniforms, including clothing with SHS logo, from Lands’ End.

Good News for sweater-lovers: Red, grey, and navy sweaters are now part of our dress code on Lands’ End.

LANDS’ END: Go to www.landsend.com

In the middle of the home page, you will see “School Uniforms”. On the next page, select “Find My School”. This will take you to a page where you will enter your child’s gender, grade and SHS school information. You can also enter our school code, 900153057. It’s best to set up an account on the website, which will save you a few steps each time you visit.

After you have selected SHS as your school, a page will appear which shows the uniform items for your child’s grade level and gender. The items will include P.E. uniforms for students in 6th–8th grades. Please note: all students, boys and girls, will wear the Boys’ Essential Tee and the Boys’ Mesh Shorts. SHS administration selected the Boys’ style because they are more modest and will be comfortable for both boys and girls. However, Sweatpant styles are specific to girls and boys.

By setting up an account, and by entering our school code when you shop, SHS will receive a percentage of all uniform purchases.

Additionally, it is acceptable to purchase basic uniform components from other vendors, including JC Penney, Dennis Uniforms, Gap, etc.

Please be sure to put your child’s name on all clothing, even jumpers and shirts/blouses. Help keep our Lost and Found box empty!

Last school year, our Lost and Found box set all-time records for its quantity of uniform items. Let’s stop this trend! Please label your child/ren’s clothing!

TIP: Clothing labels can be purchased at labeldaddy.com

A mother of 8 in our community finds these labels invaluable.

No sewing, no ironing, just press the label onto clothing item.

Labels last through a whole school year of laundering.
